This volume is a project outcome of a 'Miner2Major Landscape Partnership Scheme', managed by Nottinghamshire County Council and supported by the National Lottery, to inform and celebrate various aspects of the Sherwood Forest landscape. Explores the model villages built to accommodate mining communities associated with the Nottinghamshire Coalfield under such headings per colliery as 'Company and village';'Housing'; 'Amenities'; 'Other buildings'; 'Later developments'; etc. Sections include: 'Introduction - demand and energy, colliery company model villages of Nottinghamshire'; 'Pioneers of the concealed coalfield - the Leen Valley, 1860-1875 - Annesley, Newstead, Bestwood'; 'Renewed prosperity.
