Provides transcriptions [pp42-308] of 81 letters sent [39] and received [42] by John Patteson, 1755-1833, while on a grand tour of France, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, etc, 1778-79, which also embraced commercial activity such as visiting correspondents. He received letters largely from his family including mother, brother. While the letters from time to time touch on the the family firm and the Norwich textile industry, they contain no commercial information [eg letters from his business partner]. Also includes an introduction [pp1-39] on the Pattesons with much on their business
