Guide to Drogo Castle with introductory information about Julius Drewe, b1856, and his family. Includes family tree, etc. A succession of guides have been published by the National Trust from 1976, the latter one being: Michael Trinick, 'Castle Drogo, Devon', 1976, 22pp, illus. Castle Drogo was built by the wealthy businessman, Julius Drewe, from 1910 when the site was purchased. Designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens. Drewe made his fortune through the establishment of Home & Colonial Stores Ltd from which he withdrew from active participation in c1890. He had formerly owned Wadhurst Place, Sussex, which he had bought from the banker, Adrian de Murietta
