An 'individual critique of River Clyde traditional shipbuilding circa 1946-1987' by a former worker in the industry who started as an apprentice draftsman in 1950s, rising to be a project engineer and later leaving the industry to work in offshore rigbuilding yards. In introductory chapters deals with the decline of the industry, and its causes, as seen from his perspective as a worker, covering 'ironfighters' [steelwork trades], 'outfitters' [engineering, subcontract and finishing crafts] and 'bowler hatters' [management] and post war attrition of the industry. However, largely comprises profiles of 24 businesses in the post war period focuses especially on their production and products [pp77-317]
