Provides transcriptions of a wide range of selected documents, notably out correspondence, in the vast archive of the British Linen Co - 'the challenge ... has been to select a representative range of material so as to open a window on the Company's day to day business and concerns, its long term plans and policies, the debates and dealings'. Structured in four parts: 1] 'Formation and development, 1745-53'; 2] 'Crisis and recovery, 1753-62'; 'Debt and devolution, 1763-64'; 4] 'Disengagement, 1765-75'. An introductory chapter provides a history of the Company [pp1-19]. There is also a glossary of terms and a short note on the linen manufacture process.
