Notes:
Facsimile reproduction with a very short [2 page] introduction by G W Elliott. First published as 'Old Times in the Potteries', Stoke on Trent, 1906. Originally published as articles in 'The Sentinel' and written by a longstanding resident of Stoke on Trent. Covers the towns of Hanley, Skelton, Burslem and Tunstall, providing the writer's memories on a wide range of subjects but notably here on some pottery businesses - 'The writer proposes to describe both by pen and pencil what he believes will prove interesting facts concerning noted old manufactories, now either demolished entirely or gradually disappearing from the lights of men'. Includes briefly, for example, Johnson Brothers; Twyfords Ltd; Bishop & Stonier; Elers Bros; Slater family; etc. Also touches briefly on other categories of businers -eg British Gaslight Co Ltd, Potteries Station, Hanley; Staffordshire Potteries Waterworks Co, Hanley; etc.
