Reprinted 1974 as a facsimile copy. Originally privately published and printed in three volumes by Women's Printing Society Ltd. Volume 1 covers letters sent by Wedgwood, notably to Thomas Bentley, 1762-72; Volume 2, idem, 1772-80; Volume 3, to several others including Josiah Wedgwood junior, R L Edgeworth, Dr Priestley, Rev Plymley, James Watt, etc, 1781-94, 'with an appendix containing some letters on canals and Bentley's pamphlet on inland navigation'. NB Bentley died 1780. The letters, selected from the Wedgwood Archive by a relative, aim to provide 'a very full account of one man's ideas, opinions, methods and feelings revealed in his writings to someone he regarded as his alter ego' [ie Thomas Bentley]. The appendices to Volume 3 provide 1] 'A short review of the general advantages of inland navigation, with a plan of a navigable canal intended for a communication between the ports of Liverpool and Hull'; 2] 'Bentley's pamphlet on inland navigation with correspondence on it, 1765-1766', ie largely Wedgwood letters to Erasmus Darwin. Volume 1 includes a family tree descending from Gilbert Wedgwood and Margaret Burslem, m1612. The volumes have no indexes
