Exhibition catalogue relating to materials [338 items] connected with 'trade' from the very extensive John Johnson ephemera collection at the Bodleian Library with brief introductory chapters about the collection's content and origins. Heavily illustrated. Exhibits part [pp1-143] include sections on: trade cards; 'tradesmen's lists' - ie lists of goods stocked by tradesmen; ephemera re women in trade; ephemera with views of business premises; ephemera showing products; etc. Most items relate to retailing, wholesaling and services. Includes a short section [pp135-8] on William Newman, a prolific 19th century engraver based in the City of London and especially known for his output of trade cards
